The SMART Center has been selected to present at the 2017 annual National Career Pathways Network (NCPN) conference October 26-17 in St. Louis, Missouri. This is the seventh year in a row that members of the SMART Center team have presented at NCPN.

This year's SMART Center panelists from the Port of Houston, Anne Arundel Community College, Oceaneering International and Tidewater Community College will speak on "Maritime Logistics and Industry ROI for Student Internships and Registered Apprenticeship Pathways."

Maritime logistics plays a vital role in the coordination of the global supply chain. With the majority of all goods being transported via seafaring vessels, maritime logistics has many aspects that are not normally correlated to regular supply chain sectors and education. Identifying these differences and working to meet industry needs in growing technical sectors enables educators to create robust programs that contain both stackable credentials and industry certifications that service both the student and employer.

Panelists will outline how participants can engage industry partners to help create effective career pathways and technical education programs, as well as the benefits of registered apprenticeship and student internships for both students and employers. In addition they will learn about the quantifiable and qualitative ROI employers receive from incorporating student internships into a formalized registered apprenticeship program for their maritime logistics departments.

Conference registration is now available online.
