The SMART Center enjoys partnerships with educators across the southeast to raise students’ awareness of, and improve their readiness for, careers in the maritime and transportation industry. As a National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Center we partner with community colleges across the southeast including:

In addition to the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) we work with MITAGS-PMI (Maritime Institute of Technology and Advanced Graduate Studies), K-12 Maritime Academies, and several public school districts including Newport News, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach in Virginia. The SMART Center also has partnerships with school districts in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

The SMART Center actively seeks to engage more members of the academic community from every level – public school districts, technical schools, community colleges, four-year institutions. There are numerous benefits for educators interested in working with the SMART Center including:

•  intensive, immersive onsite professional development experiences that result in tangible take-aways for classroom application
•  unparalleled insight into industry employment needs and career pathway research
